An ISPR release Tuesday said Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force and other law enforcing forces like Coast Guard, BGB and Bangladesh Police (in a limited way) will jointly participate with US military forces in the exercise.

Approximately 500 personnel, few helicopters and Navy ships from Bangladesh side and almost 350 personnel, few aircrafts, helicopters and Navy ships from US armed forces will take part. This joint exercise is the continuation of a series of exercises conducted between both the armed forces for about last two decades.

Bangladesh, India to Conduct Joint Military Training Exercise in Assam

In order to combat growing terrorist activities and insurgency problems, the armies of India and Bangladesh will jointly conduct a counter terrorism exercise in the northeastern state of Assam this year, officials said here Wednesday. The training would be held from Feb 22 to Mar 7 at Jorhat in Assam.

"The joint exercise would be held as part of confidence building measures between both the neighbouring nations threatened by terrorism. Five officers and 15 other personnel from Bangladesh will be taking part in the exercise and will train with the special para-commandos of the Indian Army," Group Captain R.K. Das, spokesperson of the ministry of defence (MoD), told IANS Wednesday.

Jorhat is located on the fringes of dense forests and riverine plains of Assam.

"The exercise by Indian and Bangladeshi special forces will comprise of airborne operations. The modalities of the combat manoeuvres were finalised during a military conference held in Kolkata December last year," a press statement issued by the MoD said.

India has been training and also conducting counter terrorism exercises with various countries in Mizoram.

"With India keen on securing Bangladesh’s firm cooperation in fighting anti-Indian terror and insurgent outfits operating from its soil, the armies from the two countries will come together to hold their first-ever counter terrorism exercise," Das said.

The Indian army and the security forces have been fighting the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) cadres in the state.

Bangladesh army team in India for joint exercise with the Indian Army

A team of Bangladesh army officers arrived at an army base here today to carry out a joint exercise with the Indian Army.

Sources in the army told The Telegraph that a 23-member team from the Bangladesh army, led by an army officer, arrived in Calcutta yesterday and a part of the team reached Jorhat today.

The joint exercise will include parachute jumping, small team activities and special operations using helicopters.

The main objective of the joint exercise is to establish goodwill and mutual cooperation between the armies of the two neighbouring countries.

A unit of the para commandos, a special operation unit of the Indian Army based at Rowriah, will also take part in the exercise.

The joint exercise, to be held for the first time, assumes significance as it takes place at a time when Bangladesh carried out a massive crackdown on cadres of militant outfits of the Northeast who had taken refuge in the country.

Bangladesh, in recent times, have handed over top leaders of Ulfa, National Democratic front of Boroland (NDFB) and several Manipur-based militant outfits to the Indian authorities.

The arrival of the Bangladesh team in Jorhat has been rather quiet, as the district and police administration were totally in the dark about the development. “I am not aware of such a development,” Jorhat deputy commissioner R.C. Jain said.

Bangladesh army chief visit may lead to joint drills

[TOI] The just-concluded visit of chief of Bangladesh army General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen may pave the way for joint exercises between Indian and Bangladesh armies, it was learnt from army sources in Kolkata. Mubeen was in the city before flying back to Dhaka on Saturday, after a week-long visit to Delhi, Kashmir and Rajasthan.
On Friday, he visited the Eastern Command headquarters in the city and had a talk with GOC-in-C Lieutenant General V. K. Singh, the army chief designate. Army chief General Deepak Kapoor’s presence during a briefing added significance to the event. Mubeen had a meeting with Kapoor also in Delhi and visited field formations and army installations in Leh and some other parts of the country. He also visited some air force training establishments.
In the wake of improved relations with Bangladesh during the Sk Hasina regime in Dhaka, India wanted to improve defence ties with Bangladesh, with an eye on weaning the neighbour away from the sphere of Chinese influence, the sources said. Senior army officials found it strange that the Bangladesh army was having joint exercises with the Chinese army since long, but none with the Indian army.
About a year ago, a joint exercise had been planned between Indian and Bangladeshi special forces at Jorhat in Assam. For undisclosed reasons, the exercise was called off at the last moment. A reason for the mistrust could be the presence of training camps of rebel outfits from northeast India in Bangladesh and their getting help from organizations like Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. With the crackdown on these rebel outfits during Sk Hasina’s regime and arrest of top United Liberation Front of Asom. the perception was changing, the sources said. Mubeen’s visit could lead to joint exercises between troops of the two countries at the elite Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School at Vairangte in Mizoram. Control of insurgency on the Indo-Bangladesh border continues to be a problem faced by India.
As a part of defence co-operation between Bangladesh and China, Bangladesh military is now equipped predominantly with Chinese hardware, but following the improvement in relations with India could consider helping the Bangladesh military with armament, sources said.

The main objective of the joint exercise is to establish goodwill and mutual cooperation between the two armies.

Bangladesh Concludes Military Exercise with United States

Airmen and two C-130 Hercules aircraft traveled to the Asian nation to train with the Bangladesh air force to better respond to regional disasters. The exercise - which took place at Kurmitola Air Base - focused on tactical airlift operations with the Bangladesh AN-32 aircraft. Building up the relationship between the two countries was the theme of Cope South 10. Much of that relationship building happened during exchanges between subject-matter experts in operations, maintenance, navigation and rigging disciplines. "Their planes are older so we learned some things about the B-model C-130 while we told them about our H-model C-130," said Tech. Sgt. Doug Harper, of the 374th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. "They're very knowledgeable about the aircraft.

They're trying to figure out from us how to improve their aircraft. They're very well rounded. Our work is split up into different specialties in the Air Force. They have far less groups so their maintainers do a lot more." One of the exercise's objectives was to introduce Bangladesh navigators and pilots to flying missions using night-vision goggles. "The squadron commander approached me after the briefing and told me how great he thought this would cement the basics for his aircrew," said 1st Lt. Robert Carranza, a C-130 navigator with the 36th Airlift Squadron.
